Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Drawing heating energy from the ground

Be independent from oil and gas!

Ground source heat pumps capture heat from the ground which is then transferred to the house where it can be used for space or water heating. Both ground source and air source heat pumps are suitable for domestic properties.

This process works year-round, due to a constant ground temperature of between 8-12C. Even at temperatures below 0°C, from one part electricity, they still generate up to five parts heat. This means they are up to 500% efficient compared to traditional heating systems.

How it works

GSHP’s extract the heat through a series of loops buried underground. This is absorbed at low temperatures into a fluid inside a loop of pipe (a ground loop) buried underground. The fluid then passes through a compressor that raises it to a higher temperature (between 40-50°C), which can then be transferred to the water in your heating and hot water system via a heat exchanger.
