How It Works

Air source heat pumps capture the solar energy that has warmed the air and absorbs it, at a low temperature, into a fluid. Passing through a compressor, the temperature of the fluid is then increased. Finally, the higher temperature heat is then transferred to the heating and hot water circuits of the house. It can generate heat from the outside air even when the temperature outside is as low as -15°C. An air-to-water system distributes heat via your wet central heating system. Heat pumps work much more efficiently at a lower temperature than a standard boiler system would. They are suitable for radiators and underfloor heating systems, which give out heat at lower temperatures over longer periods of time. Find out more in our Air Source Heat Pumps Explained blog
